Characteristics of Newborns Treated for Acute Omphalitis at the University Hospital of Split 2015 – 2019

Objectives − The aim of the study was to retrospectively evaluate clinical and laboratory data in neonates treated for acute omphalitis at time admission University Hospital Split. Patients Methods All from January 1st 2015 December 31st 2019 were included this study. Results There 97 included, whom 58 (59.79%) males. median age 7 days. most common sign periumbilical redness 70 (72.16%), followed by umbilical discharge 49 (50.52%) neonates. In 62 (63.92%) bacteria isolated stump swab. microorganism methicilin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) 21 (33.87%) Klebsiella pneumoniae 15 (24.19%), Escherichia coli 14 (22.58%) cases. Antibiotics given all treatment course uneventful, without mortality. Conclusion Neonatal not a frequent cause hospitalization entire group hospitalized patients Department Pediatrics Split (0.75%). Acute had mild area, together with presence cord discharge, predominated presentation. It is necessary educate population medical staff continuously on importance maintaining newborn hygiene proper care.
